Prednisolone efficacy in children rheumatism

Prednisolone for sale, as well as some of corticosteroids, is widely used in the treatment of rheumatism in children.

In on Europe clinic has been decided to conduct a study of the effectiveness of prednisolone in combination with other antirheumatic agents in the treatment of children with different courses of rheumatism. It has been observed 50 boys and 59 girls. Dominated by school-age children (83 of 109) and only 26 children aged 3 to 7 years.

Living conditions in which there were vast majority of children who were good or satisfactory. In 89 children had comorbidities: chronic tonsillitis and other diseases of the nasopharynx – at 62, helminthiasis and giardiasis intestine and biliary tract – in 27.

Treatment of hormonal therapy was initiated within the first 2 weeks of the start of the attack in 26 children during the first month – at 38, after 1-2 months – at 31 and at a later date – in 14 children.

The use of corticosteroids in combination with medication antirheumatic drugs allowed to limit the average doses of hormones.

Conclusions:

  • Hormone-drug treatment with Prednisolone of children in the active phase of rheumatic fever had a positive impact on rheumatic heart disease and extracardiac manifestations of rheumatic fever.
  • Steroid hormones are especially effective in the treatment of acute and subacute myocarditis.
  • In acute endomiocardit flowing without prior valvular lesions, treatment with steroids is also effective. A smaller effect is observed in subacute endomiocardit.
  • Mild side effects of hormone therapy were observed in only a small number of children that does not preclude treatment.
